The Orange struggled against Oregon State, getting swept in a loss.

After nearly an entire week of work prior to Syracuse’s trip for the Nebraska Invite, Annie Bozzo set up an Anastasiya Gorelina spike to open the game on top. That one to nothing lead was the last SU would see on the way to a loss in straight sets at the hands of Oregon State.

The Beavers (3-1) received an enormous amount of offense up front from Lanesha Reagan who routinely received sets from McKenna Hollingsworth. Reagan recorded 16 of the team’s 38 kills while the latter racked up 29 assists. For the Orange (0-3) mistakes ran rampant.

Several SU runs, like a six to three stretch in the first set, were broken up by an overwhelming amount of errors by the team. After Gorelina, who had five of the team’s 17 errors on the day, botched a serve; Oregon State went on a six to nothing run to take set one. On the other side the Beavers only recorded 23 errors..

The Orange lost by totals of 25-10, 25-19, and 25-20. Prior to Friday, they had not lost a single set by four or more points all season. SU had surges, such as a seven to five rush down the stretch of the final set, but Reagan often stymied them with kills including one that sealed the game.

Syracuse has not started 0-3 to begin a season since 2013, when they finished 16-16 on the year. Back then they played two teams ranked in the top 25 to begin the season. None of the Orange’s opponents so far have been ranked.

The Orange’s next game is tomorrow at 6 p.m. against Iowa State.
